Volunteering

The Central Suffolk Railway will operate differently from some other preserved lines in that the team structure of CS Rail will be the central pin of our operations.

The running of the Central Suffolk Railway will be carried out by teams, the team being responsible for the complete operation of the railway and organised by a team manager. Trust, ability and commitment to the teams will be paramount. In return C.S. Rail will arrange for the training of volunteers.

At the moment we are establishing our admin team and research teams, but we need volunteers for all the following roles. Be in at the start with a new railway project and make a real contribution. Can you influence the way we run things? Volunteer Now.

Research Volunteers:
Currently we are recruiting CS Rail volunteers to research, walk, record and establish the precise route of the line east of Kenton to Cratfield and eventually to Halesworth.

Volunteer Managers
We will need Heritage Railway team managers experienced in managing and inspiring our volunteers in all aspects of running a branch line.

Membership Secretary:
We are in need of a membership secretary to start coordinating the membership applications and keeping a record of all Volunteers and Members. If you are good with lists and keeping records then please contact us.

Company Accountant:
We will apply to become a Charity Incorporated Organisation and will require a company accountant to keep and advise us of the business book-keeping methods needed as well as running the basic books up to balance for our annual audit. Experience of this type of work would be welcomed.

Volunteer Closers:
We will be establishing our own group of volunteers responsible for following up on sponsorship enquires and donation leads. This is a role that requires experience of negotiating and closing agreements. Can you persuade people and close an agreement? then help us now.

Volunteer Advisers:
We are seeking a few individuals with the time, ability and experience to present the aims and ambitions of the Central Suffolk Railway and create leads and contacts in the Heritage Railway industry at shows and exhibitions both locally and nationally. We need you to present our company to experienced Heritage Railway operatives and you will have to know about the history of the Mid-Suffolk Light Railway as well as a knowledge of the Heritage Railway industry to fulfil this customer facing volunteer role.

There are various roles that we need volunteers for when the line is being built and operational. If you feel that you could help in the many ways needed to establish this historic branch line then please contact the Central Suffolk Railway Co. on admin@csrail.org.uk
